LOVE YOUR COMPOST!! When I first attempted to start a compost the below steps really helped me. As a kid in NZ our Mums and Aunties were all natural compost queens so was pretty familiar with the process. Its in our blood to manage waste. 1: Choose your type of compost bin. Don't have a compost bin? that's ok it can also be an open pile 2: Pick a nice location 3: Alternate layers 4: Add in all your kitchen and yard waste such as leaves, grass clippings, non animal food scraps, peelings, vegetables, bread, cereal, coffee grounds and filters, tea leaves and tea bags ( remove staples and string) 5: Continue to add layers until your bins is full 6: Maintain your compost bin 7: Harvest your compost bin Remember to turn regularly about every 2-4 weeks will do. Expect perfect compost in about 4-5 weeks What NOT to compost -Meat and fish scraps -Dairy, fats, and oils -Plants or wood treated with pesticides or preservatives -Black walnut tree debris -Diseased or insect-infested plants -Weeds that have gone to seed -Charcoal or ash -Dog or cat waste
